About Us

The Old Vicarage is of the Georgian period and is classed as a grade two-listed building, it is situated in a lovely rural village surrounded by beautiful countryside, nearby there are three pubs – one with a thatched roof, the home is within walking distance of a few shops, the local church and post-office with the larger town centres of Alfreton and Ripley with more shops and amenities just a few miles away. The home does provide residents with transport when necessary and is conveniently situated on a main bus route.
The mature gardens surrounding the home are well maintained and offer an oasis of tranquilly where residents, their friends and family can sit and relax either on the furnished patio area or on various seating areas throughout the grounds.

Accommodation and Facilities

The home is decorated to a very high standard throughout with the emphasis always being placed on creating a feeling of homeliness, downstairs there are two large sitting rooms each with large screen TV’s and furnished with large comfy sofa’s, both have feature fireplaces and large windows that look out onto the gardens, a large dining room again with a feature fireplace, two walk in shower rooms that have been especially adapted to meet the needs of our clients, two toilets, a laundry room and four downstairs single bedrooms, each bedroom as its own sink unit with hot and cold running water, a television point and are furnished and decorated to the individuals personal choice – residents can bring their own furniture if they prefer so long as it fits the room.
The home has five bedrooms on the first floor again each of these have sink units with hot and cold running water and TV points, four of these rooms are for single use and the other is a shared room, again these bedrooms are furnished and decorated to the residents own personal choice, there are two large family bathrooms on this floor both with large baths, toilet and sink and one as a bidet, the staff bedroom is also allocated on this floor. The hub of the home, as in many cases is our large kitchen, it’s the centre of the home and residents love to gather here, sometimes they like to help by doing such tasks as cutting and chopping the vegetables for dinner, helping with washing up or baking cakes but generally its to see what goodies are being made, the home prides itself on the quality of the food that is served and great emphasis is placed on the choice of balanced nutritional food which is cooked on the premises using fresh local produce.

The longevity of the service of staff working at The Old Vicarage can be considered unique, with just two staff members being employed for less than two years most have been at The Old Vicarage for over 15 years bringing to the service a wealth of experience concerning Adults with Learning Disabilities. All staff are NVQ qualified and all staff undergo mandatory training in such topics as first aid, food hygiene, fire safety, infection control, moving and handling and adult protection, in addition to this staff participate in other courses relevant to their role ie person centred planning, equality and diversity, downs syndrome education and mental capacity to name a few.All staff are CRB checked and no new staff member is allowed to start work without a successful CRB check being received by the homes Registered Manager.
Residents at the home play an important part in the recruitment of all new staff and are involved significantly in the choice of who they want to help them live their lives – in fact no new staff member is appointed without the say so of all residents at The Old Vicarage.
